Abstract
Dear readers and authors,
I am pleased to bring you Volume 11, Issue 2 of Pharmacognosy Communications. In this issue, we present new research reports examining the Pharmacognosy of several important medicinal plants including the antibacterial activity of the Australian plant species Kunzea ambigua (Sm.) Druce and Kunzea flavescens C.T.White and W.D.Francis essential oils, as well as Mirbelia oxylobioides F.Muell. leaf extracts against pathogenic bacteria. We also present a study examining the antimicrobial potential of Eucalyptus baileyana F. Muell. and Eucalyptus major (Maiden) Blakely against the fish spoilage-causing bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens. We also include a number of other studies on medicinal plants and their constituents, including examinations of the hypoglycaemic effects of Fagonia indica leaf extracts, the antiviral properties of some TCM and Iranian medicinal plants against viral hepatitis, the pharmaceutical properties of Trachyspermum ammi L., an examination of the anti-proliferative activity of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. calyx flavonoid extracts on cervical cancer cells using flow cytometry, the antibacterial activities and phytochemical screening of crude extracts from Kenyan Macaranga species towards effux pump expression, as well as a review on toxicological compounds from plants. We also present a study describing the chromatography assisted validation of alternate plant materials in a polyherbal formulation.
