Abstract
Menopause is a natural physiological change in women characterized by decreased ovarian hormone production, which causes a variety of symptoms such as hot flashes, nocturnal sweats, mood swings, sleep difficulties, and diminished bone density. Although Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is commonly used to treat these symptoms, worries about its long-term safety have led many women to seek alternative and complementary treatments. Herbal supplements, in particular, have attracted a lot of attention because of their presumed natural nature and potential therapeutic effects. This study will assess the effectiveness of commonly used herbal supplements in treating menopausal symptoms, focusing on their mechanisms of action, therapeutic advantages, safety issues, and potential drug interactions. A comprehensive literature evaluation was undertaken by examining published scientific articles, clinical research, and review papers on herbal therapies for menopausal symptom management. Relevant data on efficacy, pharmacological mechanisms, safety profiles, and clinical outcomes were rigorously reviewed and compiled. Several herbal supplements, including phytoestrogen-rich plants and medicinal herbs with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective qualities, have showed promise in alleviating menopausal symptoms such as vasomotor disturbances, mood shifts, and sleep irregularities. However, variances in herbal composition, dose, and clinical evidence lead to uneven results. Furthermore, worries about product standardization, safety, and potential herb-drug interactions remain substantial obstacles. Herbal supplements may give supportive alleviation for menopausal symptoms and constitute a promising complementary treatment option for women seeking alternatives to traditional treatments. Nonetheless, additional well-designed clinical trials, standardized formulations, and stronger regulatory frameworks are required to ensure efficacy, safety, and appropriate therapeutic use.
