Abstract
Background
The scientific validation of traditional as well as proprietary Ayurvedic formulations is crucial for the purpose of healing of wound in chronic non healing wounds. Polyherbal Formulation Extracted Ointment, a proprietary formulation made up of Water-soluble extracts of Nirgundi patra, Amalaki Bark and Bhringraja whole plant with simple ointment base. All three drugs are having Wound healing activity which mentioned in ayurveda classical texts as Vranaropana, Vrana-shodhana, Krimighna activities.
Aim and Objectives
Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) applied in this study to analyze chemical composition of Polyherbal Formulation Extracted Ointment, targeting to signify correlations between bioactive chemical compounds and therapeutic effects in wound healing.
Materials and Methods
A 10 g sample Polyherbal Formulation Extracted Ointment was prepared in KLE’s GMP certified Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Belagavi and submitted to GC-MS analysis utilizing conventional analytical techniques in order to determine bioactive chemical components.
Results and Discussion
Bioactive substances were identified by the analysis, including Linoleic acid, Oleic acid, Palmitic acid and derivatives, Erucic acid, Stearic acid, Tetradecanol, Octacosane, Limonene derivative, which are known for their ability to heal wounds. These results are consistent with the conventional application of Polyherbal Formulation Extracted Ointment in reducing pain, inflammation, supporting its role in chronic non healing wounds where wound healing potential is necessary.
Conclusion
The presence of bioactive compounds confirms medicinal use of Polyherbal Formulation Extracted Ointment as an effective wound healing formulation in chronic non healing wounds. Additional research on-going to investigate its clinical effectiveness and wound healing potential to chronic non healing wounds.
