Abstract
Background: The genus <em>Crotalaria</em> (Fabaceae) is known for its diverse pharmacological activities. Objective: The present study was aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of the methanolic extract of <em>Crotalaria pallida</em> (MECP) whole plant. Materials and Methods: The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan-induced rat paw edema and cotton pellet-induced granuloma models. The analgesic activity was assessed using acetic acid-induced writhing and tail-flick models in mice. Results: MECP (200 and 400 mg/kg) showed significant (P < 0.01) anti-inflammatory activity in both acute and chronic models. In the analgesic models, MECP exhibited significant (P < 0.01) reduction in the number of writhes and increased the reaction time in the tail-flick test. Conclusion: The results suggest that MECP possesses significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities, which may be attributed to the presence of phytochemicals like flavonoids and alkaloids.
